      ESL Teacher Interview

      Apr 20, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at VIPKid in Apr 2017

      Interview

The first interview had a quick response and went well. The first mock lesson went pretty good too. I had a scheduling snafu, I scheduled a time, but put the wrong day in my calendar so I missed it. I felt awful! But rescheduled and had a great mock 1, the evaluator was great to work with and received a great score within an hour. I scheduled the 2nd mock for the next day. That one did not go so well, the evaluator was not as friendly and very business like going through a script. I had prepped and prepared, I did get nervous and 1-2 of the slides I did not do what I had planned so it seemed a little scattered. She questioned some of my teaching strategies and I explained my reasoning. We moved on to the older kids, which I do not have as much experience with. She claimed to be an 8 year old with conversational English. I was not prepared enough for the older kid. Little ones I can totally wing it, the older one threw me a little so on a few slides I fumbled. Which honestly I feel should be expected. I wasn't great on my time either. Even after our discussion between lessons. I was uncomfortable with the evaluator throughout the lessons. She stated I would hear back within 1-2 days. With the prior steps, I heard back immediately. Now it's been a full day and nothing. The portal says "pending". I know I would be a great fit for this company and would be a great asset to the teaching staff, I'm just sorry luck of the draw got me a super hard evaluator. Overall the process is a little hard, for this type of job...but nothing compared to what classroom teachers go through to get hired! I just wish they'd let me know hired or denied as quickly as I moved through the other steps. You are allowed to apply again after 90 days, but I don't know if I will try again. I'm not sure why the last evaluator has the final say and they don't look at all the pieces to the process. I'll still keep my fingers crossed, but I don't feel that it's looking good at this point.
