I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid in Apr 2017
Interview
I was very disappointed in my interview process at VIPKID. I have two years ESL teaching experience in Japan and 1 1/2 years teaching early childhood in the US. I got through the first interview where I was told how much I would be making and what steps were next. As I was sent a contract and training, I was under the assumption I was hired. I prepared for my first mock class, watched all the videos, and had props. The things I was asked to work on I felt I addressed appropriately and my main issue during my mock (going a little long) I asked for advice how to fix and worked on a game plan with my interviewer so I could do well on mock 2. During my interview and my mock I was praised for how I taught and my mock lesson teacher was already talking about resources I could use as soon as training was done. The next day I got a letter saying they decided to pass on me without indicating why. I feel like I put a lot of time and work into this process, was lead to believe I had a job, and had one pulled out from under me.
A greatly respect your experience, and having so many years teaching experience is wonderful. As online education continues to grow different skills are sometimes needed, and at times, skills in the classroom may not translate well to the online platform.
We apologize for the miscommunication and are working to be clearer and more consistent in both response time and feedback. You are welcome to email us at teachvip@vipkid.com.cn if you have further questions.
I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid (New Haven, CT) in Apr 2017
Interview
I had to do 3 mock classes and spent a lot of time making props, buying the orange shirt, etc. I was very sick during one class which was horrible. A few small tech problems. No feedback. Email that I was declined.
Currently we are working to improve our recruitment procedures, and apologize for any miscommunication that occurred during your interview. We have already implemented several new guidelines for recruiters to help minimize this, and we would love to hear back from you in the future.
You are welcome to email us to get more feedback about your interview and demo lesson performance. Our email is teachvip@vipkid.com.cn.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at VIPKid (San Diego, CA) in Apr 2017
Interview
The interview experience was very positive. The interviewer was very encouraging, kind, and gave immediate feedback. The initial interview is followed by a 10 minute demo lesson using a powerpoint that was made available well in advance.
