Phone screen, phone interview with MD that was very enthusiastic, then in person interview to meet team and tour facility. I was told I was a great fit. After a week no formal rejection message, only a vague response to wish me luck. Vanderbilt likes to amass a large pool of candidates to boost their ego, I later found out they chose someone with a connection to another MD that worked there, so they probably never planned on hiring anyone else. Felt like a waste of time. It is still a good place to start out, but it is better to know from the start that they are known to do this.

Initial application was submitted through the VUMC career center website. There was almost a two-month lapse of time before any communication was received, regarding a screening interview via phone with an HR employee. That interview consisted of general behavioral questions, such as "Why choose to work at VUMC? What is your general philosophy when dealing with conflict? What makes you the most qualified candidate?" and the like. I then received a phone call two weeks later from the departmental manager, who discussed the details of the position as well as conducted an informal phone interview. The following week that departmental manager called to set up a face-to-face panel interview consisting of the manager and the department NPs. This interview consisted of more NP-specific behavioral questions where the interviewer provides a topic/scenario, and I had to describe an applicable experience of my own, what I did, and what I learned from that experience. I did not get the job due to lack of experience, but it was a positive interviewing experience overall. Everyone was friendly and kind, and although the questions were somewhat difficult, it was a fairly informal and comfortable atmosphere interviewing with this particular department.
