Through networking, I reached out to the unit and came up for a visit. I was encouraged to apply for a position, so I did. From there my application was in the hands of HR, which was honestly a bit of a frustrating and lengthy process. There was a 30 minute phone interview with an HR personnel which frankly seemed inappropriate to me -- why is someone with no experience working in health care giving me a preliminary interview?? I have worked with HR departments previously of course in my field, but they seemed extra involved here. Maybe that's just the way things are done now, I'm not sure. Next I had my official interview with the Unit Manager and a Director over the unit. I was offered the position right away and just had to wait for HR to complete my background checks and send the official offer. It was time-consuming and it felt like HR was very much a middle-man, but it ultimately worked out so I have no real complaints about the process.
