Straightforward interview process with the hiring manager. Phone interview followed by an in-person interview and offer letter. HR is a different story. They will ask for FIVE references, who they do not contact, but instead, send an e-mail with ~30 survey questions. Two of the five references must be a former supervisor. Then they will do a background check using a third-party provider (Sterling). Sterling also does not contact any of the references, former employers, or your college to verify a degree. They use an automated system, and if there are any issues validating your information they will take a week to respond back requesting additional information. I rescinded the offer after getting frustrated with the delays of my start date and having issues with Sterling's communication. The HR department is not of any help either. They will just apologize, admit that several other new hires are facing the issues, and kick the can. Change the process. Three references are the norm. Contact them! And get rid of Sterling.
