Simple phone interview that sounded very scripted and mostly went over my submitted resume. Nothing too challenging was asked. Vanderbilt hiring managers are required to ask the same scripted interview questions, regardless of department. They are very predictable and boring.

Some labs work with a recruiter to fill the position. Every position varies as far as interview process. One lab/PI required two interviews, half a dozen references, and a phone interview with my prior boss. In another I had one interview with the PI, then one interview with the lab members which was more of like a vibe check. Another lab just talked about experience and why I wanted to move to the city.

The interview was for a lab new to Vanderbilt and only lasted a couple of hours as they had not set up yet. It involved speaking with a researcher about my past experiences. This was different from another interview I had with an established lab at Vanderbilt where I met and interviewed with the entire team including the lead investigator. Both involved lab tours.
