I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Verizon in Jul 2015
Interview
First interview was over the phone with a recruiter. She sent an email a few days prior with information about the position and for an item to be used in a sales roleplay. The phone interview lasted roughly 45 minutes asking basic interview questions. Why Verizon, your background experience in sales and/or wireless. Pretty straight forward. If she feels you did well on the phone, she'll give you a little advice to use in store for your next interview with the store manager. She scheduled my interview the next day.
The store interview was a bit more in depth. Both the store manager and a solutions manager gave me a tour of the store and had a small informal discussion about nothing in general just to get a feel for me. We then went into the office for the interview. This process was very professional and both managers were engaged in the interview, both asking questions. Store manager said if I did well I would be contacted by the district manager for a final interview the following week.
I was actually contacted the very next day. To me, a good sign. The DM didn't want another formal interview. Just wanted to ask a little about me and my experience to see if she felt I would be a good fit for not only verizon, but the store I was to be working in. This lasted around 20 minutes.
Ultimately the store manager does make the final decision. I was contacted a few days later by a recruiter and was offered the position.
Whole process for me took maybe 2 weeks. Then if course there's the background check you have to wait on. Then paid training for 3 weeks.
Interview process was pretty straightforward. They tend to bypass a lot of the fluff and want to see how you act as a member of a team and what you are going to do when you are in a tough situation regarding numbers and meeting “quota.”
