I applied through other source. I interviewed at Vertica in Sep 2014
Interview
A recruiter called me after I approached him on linkedin, we then setup a phone interview.
The phone interview was via an online collaboration where you get about an hour to solve an algorithm riddle. you have almost no time to actually read and think about the problem, as soon as you login to the online site the answer just appears.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
given an input sequence of n integers, each of which has a value between
1 and 100 (inclusive), write a function that outputs the sum of the k
largest integers. Use a language of your choice for the implementation,
but ideally C++ or Java.
Additional questions (answered in English, no coding needed)
* What is the complexity of your algorithm? Do you think it is the best?
* What if each value is between 1 and m, where m is a variable?
If there are unspecific elements in this coding question (e.g. data
structures), choose whatever that is reasonable to you.
The interviews were a System design interview And a discussion about the Vertica architecture. They also gave a take home assignment. Overall very positive interview and very interesting interview topics
