Shortly after I had applied for this position I received an email inviting me to phone screen, I had to choose two hour time slots across two days, I then received the phone call on the second chosen day within the hour. The phone call was brief and lasted roughly 5-10 minutes , asking me questions relating to my availability and why I had applied for the position, coming up to the end of the phone call, I was told that I was successful and that I was now invited to the assessment centre which was arranged over the next 4 days. Dress code was smart/black "not necessarily a suit" stated in the confirmation email. Upon my arrival, they told me that I had to roam the shop floor until they were ready as they were expecting 10 of us and only two to be present at the time. After 15 minutes of waiting, they were finally ready to take us to the assessment centre, which happened to be a 10 minute walk away from the store. Assessment room: A very long straight table (which in my opinion should have been round) as I somehow ended up at the back of the line, so I ended up at the end of the table where I could barely see the interviewers and pretty much got the short straw when it came to the group activities and selling exercises. We started out by introducing ourselves to the group and then split into two groups, each side of the table. We then had to build a stable bridge out of coffee stirrers which was very awkward for me to involve myself in as the table restricted me from being able to reach the development of the bridge, I did however try by giving ideas and building parts and we did win the activity. Each team then were given a piece of paper with a scenario such as; "slumber party" and had to pick out items from the table then tell the interviewers why we had chosen the items for given scenario. Then we had to do the same, except this time it was individual scenarios, which put me at a disadvantage again, I was the last to get a scenario so by the time I was given it, all of the items had been taken for and I was left with nothing on the table, I had to improvise and awkwardly point at other peoples items when telling them why I had chosen them. Lastly, we had three rounds of personal 1-to-1 type interview questions where they went around the table asking us individual questions and we had to answer in front of the group. That was it. I gave this an overall negative experience because nothing about it felt like an interview, it felt more like induction training before you start a job. CV didn't matter, past experience didn't matter and the questions were tailored more for situations when working at Victorias Secret rather than questions that related to your personal customer service experience. Upon the end of the "interview" they told everyone they would hear back by phone call the following week. I did hear back, though, in an email. They provided feedback but it wasn't very clear. I received feedback on how they were "really impressed" with my understanding on great customer service and selling and how I always put the customer first etc. then, how I was unsuccessful this time. When I receive feedback I'd like to know where I went wrong so I can improve on that in the future.
