      Executive Assistant Interview

      Feb 28, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Videri (New York, NY) in Jan 2017

      Interview

Incredibly thorough. I was referred to the company through a recruiter. I had a phone screening first, which lasted about 20 minutes with Aileen. I was asked to come back for a formal interview a few days later and met with Priscilla and Aileen simultaneously. Incredibly informal interview and I got the feeling that they were more looking for someone to get along with as opposed to someone more experienced. Interview lasted around an hour. After nearly three weeks they asked me to come back for a third interview to meet the CEO. When I arrived, I met with the CEO's current EA, Chelsea, and was told that the CEO was still away. The interview was very in depth and informative, not only in regards to the role, but what the company is about and what exactly they needed in their new hire. It lasted over an hour and when asked about when I would hear back, they told me two days from then. The next day my recruiter informed me that C-level management decided they no longer wanted to hire an administrative professional, but project managers instead and they were opening up interviewing for a new role entirely. I am somewhat appalled that a company would willfully waste an applicant's time in that manner. I would've been happier to hear that they were going to go with another candidate than to know that I wasted over a month for a role they decided to scrap.

We appreciate your feedback and we are sorry to hear you feel your time was wasted; that was never our intention. We pride ourselves in being thorough throughout our application process. Hiring for an EA position is all about the right fit between the manager and the assistant. The team took their time gathering feedback from the last round of interviews and changed the scope of the role. Without meeting the candidates at this level, they would have been unable to come to this decision. So while unfortunate, this scope change was a necessary part of the process. There also seems to have been some confusion in communication with the recruiter, as this role was never going to report into the CEO. We apologize for any miscommunication that may have carried out, but we obviously would never stand for any verbal abuse by anyone at our company. I am sure you were treated with the upmost respect during the entire process. We pride ourselves in fostering a collaborative and safe environment and will continue doing so.
