Nearly 4 weeks after submitting my application i was contacted by the recruiter to schedule a phone screening. The conversation went very well in which i could tell that the recruiter could see that i was a VERY strong match for the position and seemed very eager to get me to talk with the hiring manager ASAP.
The next day i received an email from the hiring manager to schedule a 30 minute phone interview. I had a 30 minute phone interview with the Hiring Manager 2 days after my initial phone screening. That interview also went extremely well and it sounded almost as if the manager was ready to give me an offer over the phone.
A week later i received an email from the recruiter asking me for my availability to come on site and interview with the rest of the team. I immediately provide my schedule for a 4 day period and responded the same day to the recruiter.
Another week went by before i FINALLY heard back from not the recruiter but the HR Coordinator who gave a a list of days and times that i had to pick to come on site for an interview. Totally ignoring the days and times i was asked to provide and given the amount of time lapse, the schedule i initially provided became obsolete because it took them a week to respond.
A week later i came on site and interviewed with the team and felt that it went very well.
2 weeks went by and i still had not been contacted by anyone even just to let me know what the next steps were nor was i given any time frame in which a decision was going to be made.
I finally emailed the recruiter on Monday and by Thursday i still had not received a response or heard back from anyone. I sent a second email this time to the HR coordinator and CC the recruiter and finally received a reply in which i was told that the position had been filled by an internal candidate and i was thanked for my "patience".
I have to say that the overall interviewing process was very poorly handled and the company lacks a high degree of professionalism. The lack of communication and follow up was extremely unprofessional and I have never interviewed with an organized where i was considered as a serious candidate and no one communicated with me in regards to the process and next steps.
I know the organization is going through a growth spurt but it seems to me that they are not capable of effectively managing that growth in an efficient way which should be a concern for any external candidate.
Even if i had been offered the position, I would have given some serious consideration into not accepting based off the way the organization handles its interview process, lack of communication and the way it treats its external candidates.
There is no excuse to not communicate with candidates especially ones that have taken time away from their current jobs to interview with the organization only to be treated by your HR reps like you are insignificant.
Not only was the communication poor but the whole process took 3 months from application to final decision. Seems like a ridiculously long amount of time for a non- management position.
