Interview
Interviews are run through search committees of cross-discipline departmental faculty. The process may be cumbersome and frustrating due to a variety of factors: who's on the committee, how busy is the HR department, getting all the documentation that then has to be approved in Qatar and in Virginia. But, the hassle is worth it. I just wish the HR people in Qatar and home campus could expedite the hiring process, but unfortunately it is what it is.

Question 1
My interview went very smoothly. I think people know when it is a good fit or not. If the questions seem strange, then the committee is probably not sure about the candidate and is trying to find out if things will work out or to let them go. Why? It costs a small fortune to bring people to Qatar and then having things turn sour for the person and/or the institution.
