      Geophysicist Interview

      Apr 18, 2016
      Anonymous employee
Crawley, West Sussex, South East England, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Viridien (Crawley, West Sussex, South East England, England)

      Interview

Initial telephone interview asking basic personal questions. I was asked to detail a basic seismic processing flow. I was also asked what I knew about the company, so one should have knowledge of recent news involving the company as well as new technologies being marketed. Final stage is a 2 hour (approx.) interview, split into two parts. First part is a face to face interview with a HR representative, lasting about 45 mins. Standard HR-type questions asked, nothing crazy. For example, what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses etc. Second part of the interview is technical based, involving two technical managers. Technical questions are tailored based on your background. For example, if you have a geophysical background they will ask more technical questions. The interview is ended by an interpretation of a seismic dataset printed onto a large paper sheet. Questions asked include "is this a marine dataset?" "is this dataset migrated?" "what is the water depth approximately?" "where is the water bottom multiple, and how have you come to that conclusion?" "where do you think this multiple originates from? (i.e. what geological layers have the multiple ray paths reflected off of?)

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Viridien (Rio de Janeiro) in May 2026

      Interview

The interview process is very comprehensive, it comprises general interviews so the candidate can introduce himself and his interests as well as instruct the candidate on how to proceed. There are also cognitive and math/physics tests, as well as presentations during which the candidate must showcase previous projects and explain geophysics methods. The process covers both technical/hardskills as well as interpersonal/softskills.
