      Data Engineer Interview

      Dec 11, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Virta in Dec 2020

      Interview

Technical phone screen followed by 4.5 hours of back to back interviews with 6 different people. 3 were technical and 3 behavioral. All were done over a single Zoom call with the different people hopping in/out throughout the day. There were no breaks allotted during the interview, but a couple people asked if I needed a short one and I asked for one to someone who did not. The three technical sessions were a) whiteboard design b) SQL c) python The SQL was trivial and the python was real-world task - parse a log file and send matching errors to http service. The whiteboard design was pretty open-ended - build the backend for a full-text document search engine. The interviewers had internet difficulty throughout the day so some sessions were awkward due to cutting in/out constantly or not being able to use Zoom at all.
