Disappointing & Disengaged Technical Interview – Zero Collaboration. I recently went through a technical interview round with Visa that left a very poor impression of their engineering culture and candidate experience. The round was scheduled for 60 minutes to cover coding and Low-Level Design (LLD), but it lasted only 30 minutes. Here were the main issues: No Video / Camera Off: The interviewer never turned on their camera or joined via video, creating an unengaging and cold atmosphere from the start. Refusal to Collaborate: A senior/staff-level interview should evaluate how an engineer thinks, discusses trade-offs, and communicates. When I tried to explain my approach before coding, the interviewer dismissed it and demanded I just write the code first. Rude &; Dismissive Interaction: When I asked to align on direction or sought a minor clarification, I was bluntly told that "hints are not allowed" and that no discussion would happen until code was typed out. Truncated Time: The interviewer asked a single coding prompt, waited silently for the code, and abruptly ended the interview 30 minutes early without opening the floor for Q&A or discussion. An automated online assessment tool would have provided a warmer and more structured experience than this human interviewer did. For a company of Visa's stature, this fell far short of the professional standard expected for senior engineering roles. Advice to Management: Standardize your technical interviewing bar and train interviewers on candidate experience. Senior candidates evaluate your team and culture just as much as you evaluate them. A one-sided, silent proctoring style does not reflect well on Visa's engineering brand.
