I went in for what I thought was an interview for a speech position. I met with the head SLP. She did not ask me any questions regarding my experience. Instead, she told me that they do not typically hire someone with my qualifications and proceeded to spend an hour giving me advice on career and graduate school. I did not ask for this advice and she did not tell me anything I did not already know. She encouraged me to look at other school districts (which I am) and to look for jobs in the field of my original degree (which I am). I feel she felt she was helping a new person entering the field but it seemed more like an opportunity to feed her ego. I do not understand why I was called in for an "interview" in the first place if they decided before I got there that I was not qualified. It was a waste of time and the most condescending experience I have ever had. Not to mention, the woman I interviewed with was not even there when I arrived and the receptionist referred to me as a "little girl." I am 30 with multiple degrees and a wide range of professional experience.
