Starting off with the interview process:
The interview started with standard greetings and an intro, but I noticed that the interviewer appeared disinterested, as if they had already found someone and were only doing the interview out of obligation. The experience got worse by some technical issues such as, the interviewer’s microphone had a constant, loud buzz that made them difficult to understand. Another thing that happened was the interview was cut 15 minutes short because the interviewer lost their patience and did not want to continue.
Interview Questions:
I was asked very vague troubleshooting scenarios where the interviewer couldn't provide basic topology context. The questions focused on fiber and server network troubleshooting but were framed in a way that was were intentionally meant to fail you. These types of problems have multiple troubleshooting solutions, but when I provided my reasoning, I was told that I troubleshooted the problems in a "horrible" way and the interviewer claimed I did not know what I was doing. The interviewer seemed to have only worked a very linear role in this type of field and was unable to flexibly understand different troubleshooting methodologies. A couple of questions were worded so poor, that I had to state I didn't know what they were asking, which resulted in us skipping those questions entirely.
Feedback and Outcome:
At the last minute of the 15 minute interview, the interviewer told me that the interview was a "dumpster fire and was awful." They told me I was bad at my job and didn't know the simplest troubleshooting steps. This was highly unprofessional, especially considering that different companies have different methodologies for troubleshooting and deployments.
Pay was never discussed but at this point, who cares.
Inconsistencies:
The job title does not match the description and what the interview has told me about the job. Most of the work listed is for a network infrastructure title, but in the interview, I was told this is strictly "Smart Hands." I was told the only work you will do is what is handed to you, and you will not help design or configure anything and your hands will be held the entire time. The TA somewhat misrepresent the traveling schedule. I was told it would be 50-60% of the time but instead it was 80% of the time.
After this experience, I will not be looking to apply to this company due to this experience.
It also felt like they do not know what this role is meant for and what they are hiring for it.
