      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Mar 7, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at WP Engine (Austin, TX) in Mar 2020

      Interview

-I applied via Indeed with my resume and did not include a cover letter (for those that worry about whether or not this is necessary) -Within 24hrs I received a response via Indeed message expressing their interest and asking that I take the next step in the process -The next step is an ‘initial sales assessment’ that you’ll need to set aside some time for. “This process is designed to take the bias out of our hiring process and should take about 35-45 minutes of uninterrupted time.” -After taking the test, the only advice I can give is not to rush and to take your time. There is a visible timer ticking down that added a bit of pressure, but it’s not near enough time to finish the assessment. Once the timer ran out, I was probably 60% through and it just asked if I wanted more time. Obviously I said yes, which resulted in them removing the timer completely giving me all the time I needed to finish. Don’t rush. -Not even an hour passed after I finished before I heard from a recruiter via email asking to set up a phone interview. Just pick a time via the link they send. -Recruiter called right at the scheduled time (on the dot) and was very pleasant. She spent the first 5-10min just telling me about the company and it’s current goings on, history and important people. Take notes, this stuff matters to them and it should to you. I’ll list questions below. -After a casual and comfortable phone interview, she asked immediately about setting up an on-site interview. This would be the final step of the hiring process. I work a lot now and have a very busy schedule including a vacation out of state coming up that very week. Recruiters were very accommodating and made sure I got an interview before leaving for my trip. -The best thing about this part of the process is that the recruiter will call you the day before to make sure you’re ready and to answer any questions you might have before coming in. Parking and finding the building is easy if you read the attachment they provide with the confirmation email for the interview time. -They will also give you a few tips, most important tip being “Know your ‘Why?’”. Basically, be prepared to explain why you chose WP Engine and be genuine. If you could care less who you work for, this may not be the right fit. -Met with 4 hiring managers individually and spent about 30-45min with each, plan for 2.5hrs -Come prepared to ask questions. Both you and the hiring managers should be using the interviews to ensure it will be a good fit. Not just their interests at stake here so don’t be afraid to make sure it’s right for you. -Received word with an offer the very next day! Couldn’t be more excited, as I can see myself being very happy there for the foreseeable future.

      Interview

Initial over-the-phone interview with your standard first round questions. Provided an overview of the role, asked about experience, etc. Second and final round interview involved three 30-minute interviews and tour of the office. Very hospitable and welcoming. Nothing but positive things to say about the people and company. Ended up taking another offer due to external circumstances.
