      Interview

There are two processes: 1) Apply and get a phone interview. If you do well enough on that, you'll get an in-person interview, usually with a few of the support managers or shift leads. If they think you're a fit, you'll get an offer. If not all of the managers that wanted to interview you get a chance, you might get to come back in for a second in-person interview so the others can talk with you. 2) Go to one of the meet and greets. Talk with the managers and employees, show off your awesome personality and demonstrate a passion for what we do. Get your name out there. If you haven't already applied, now's the time. From there, it's a lot like the process outlined above except you might skip the phone interview. I'd recommend this way if you live in or around Austin.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I didn't get any questions that I considered difficult or wasn't expecting. It's typical support related interview questions (describe a difficult situation, why do you want to work here, expand more on your knowledge [of WordPress, in this case], what was your typical day like at your last job, etc). Honestly, I guess I could say the hardest and most unexpected question for me was "what do you do for fun?" because it was the only answer that I felt I stumbled with. All-in-all I was very comfortable with the entire process, but still be prepared.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WP Engine (Austin, TX) in May 2014

      Interview

Started with a phone interview where I was asked basic questions by their front desk attendant Kelly. She gathered information on things like previous work history, familiarity with WordPress, and so forth. This was not a technical interview. After the phone interview they offered me an interview downtown with managers. They were not very friendly which disappointed me, in comparison to the good rep I've heard around town. Instead I got two burly older men with poker faces scribbling my answers on a notebook. They seemed more interested in my other job offers and the people that I knew at WPEngine, rather than my personality. So be warned, this is clearly a game of politics. (Or, the managers were just having a bad day!) I don't remember any hard questions - similar to the phone interview, they were very basic. We sat in a stuffy box room for about 30 minutes. I suspect they cut out 1/2 of the interview with the technical team, since Kelly's initial email stated the interview would be at least an hour. Overall, I was not impressed. They only had canned questions and responses to share, and did not reveal any personality themselves.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I told them I left my current job, and gave brief explanation. They urged me to keep explaining why I left, which I suspect was a way for them to gauge my potential loyalness to a company. Watch your wording with these folks. They followed up with the question, "If you were CEO of that company, what would you do to change it?"
