Interview
Interview was more like visiting that a productive discussion. Interviewer tended to slip into a mode of giving you the entire company history & all the play by play changes. If you are not careful, you will leave without having spent enough time interacting & they will still not know who you are or what your qualifications are. Go in with some prepared questions & be prepared to almost take control of the interview to keep it moving & productive, so they will know who you are & what your qualifications are.
They are a very conservative company & they are a portfolio lender with niche' products. They seemed to be looking for someone to follow their protocol & not ask questions or think to much outside the box. They are very big on their culture, their specific business model & religiously following both of them to the "T".

Question 1
Do you have local contact & established relationships?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at WaFd Bank (Phoenix, AZ) in Jul 2024
Interview
Very drawn-out process, multiple “conversations” over an extended period of time. At my 2nd in-person “conversation”, I was told to expect at least two to three more in addition to a potential meet & greet with the location staff. Was told I’d hear back either way, followed up and was told an update was coming and to hang tight, 10 days later, still no communication or update. I check the career portal and find “candidate not selected” however they couldn’t even bother to update me with that, and left me wondering completely. Be very mindful of your time and keep your expectations low when interviewing with WaFd, specifically in Arizona.

Total of two interviews and then a few weeks to wait for an answer. Screened by HR and moved to hiring manager. Hiring manager didn’t seem to know as many answers to my questions as needed. Ended with next steps.
