I applied for the Cast Member role online. The job advert wasn’t totally clear, as it was described as full-time but also said at the bottom that it was an 8 hour a week contract. I received an email a day after my application saying that I was invited for an interview, and this wasn’t clear either as it didn’t mention anything about it being a group interview. Luckily I checked on Glass Door beforehand and expected that this may be the case, but to some people I’m sure this comes as a surprise.
There were six of us all together, and we were shown ‘backstage’ where we were to be interviewed by the store’s manager and his assistant. Our first task was to chat to the person next to us and then introduce them to the group. Next, we were split into two groups of three and were given two products from the Disney Store and had 5 minutes to find out as much information about these products as we could from their packaging etc and feedback to the group. Our third and final task was again in the two groups of three, we had to go into the store and choose a gift for an 8 year old girl with a £25 budget.
The tasks were quite fun and interactive, and the interviewers were friendly. However, it became clear that the role was in fact only 8 hours a week with limited opportunity for overtime. The part of the interview that I found very unprofessional was that the manager refused to tell us what the pay was, saying that he would only reveal this once we had accepted the job offer as we shouldn’t want to work for them for the sake of money. This may be fine for students looking to make a bit of pocket money, but I came to the interview looking for a full-time role that would support me financially, which was clearly not on offer.
In addition, we were told that we would hear either way if we were successful or unsuccessful the following day. It’s now 3 days later and I have heard nothing. Luckily I couldn’t have taken the job anyway with so few hours so it doesn’t matter to me, but I find this uncourteous. There was no dress code for the interview either, so I was the only one smartly dressed which was quite embarrassing.
Overall the interview was ok, but the job description needs to be much clearer as I feel I wasted my time. People should be made aware that this is a part-time role, that it will be a group interview, and to arrive casually dressed.
