I applied online through their website; quick turn around for phone screen. Scheduling first video interview took a few weeks, then was asked to submit additional content examples to move to the in-person. In-person took about 2 more weeks to schedule and ran about 5 hours, it included 2 45 minutes with directors, lunch with hiring manager, and then a "whiteboarding session" with possible peers. Following that, I had a video interview as a last step with the head of the department. It took 2 weeks for them to get back to me with a confusing yes/no. During this time, the recruiter I worked with had left and I was given a new recruiter (oh don't worry there was another that came in the last hour). Recruiter told me they wanted me to be considered for a different role on the team on a Friday, by Monday that was no longer option. Asked if I would consider a whole different team that would require additional videos and in-person. A week later, I was asked to consider the second role brought up to me with the caveat that the team just had to speak with me and I was the only candidate they were considering and were very interested in me. I agreed to speak with the head of the department, as I really enjoyed my conversation with him. Said department head did not adequately prepare me for the video interview with product managers. The interview was much more technical and "experience based" than I was led to believe, and the hiring team asked about experience and skills that if they had actually discussed my candidacy with the recruiting team, they would have known I did not have that but I was a top candidate because of my diverse skillset and experience working in both an in-house and agency function.
That call was on Monday, I reached out over the course of the week to get a sense of their timeline, on a Friday (before Labor Day), I received a call from the recruiter saying they would be passing on my experience but "would love to keep me in my mind for future opportunities on the team." I informed the recruiter that after 3 months and 3 jobs, I lacked faith in their decision making, process, and lack of respect for candidates time. The only feedback I received was "not a perfect fit" After 3 months, I deserved more insight and would have been grateful for any help as I continue to look for a job. Let me reiterate: I had 3 recruiters in 3 months, the first was lovely (she left), second was misinformed and provided false hope (then he was moved to a different team), and the final recruiter was so late in the game he offered no insight.
While they may be doing some cool stuff, the Experience Design team is a mess in terms of hiring, and has absolutely no respect for their candidates. Candidates are not just resumes you can throw at different roles and keep in your pipeline to maintain quotas. I was a big of Wayfair's product but am not sure I could ever give them my money again.
