Phone interview, followed by in person interview, then a paid, day-long test shoot a week later. I did mention it would be hard to get time off to come out for a test shoot since I lived over an hour and a half away, but they requested I come in. After asking me to come out twice, I was offered the position at $7k under the low end of my range. My salary requirements had been specified both during the phone interview, and written in an email when requested.

Phone screen with hiring manager followed by a Skype interview with the hiring manager and his superior I received an offer the next day, which I was surprised at. This position would require relocation and management was surprised when I mentioned I'd like to see the studio and team prior to making a decision. They answered that I was welcome to pay for a trip to visit the studio. Very unprofessional as this should be part of their hiring process. Benefits offered are lackluster. Highest medical deductible I've ever seen - around $4500 per year for a couple on the cheapest plan. After I declined the offer, they called back saying they were super surprised and wanted to negotiate. They were fairly hostile and pushy on the phone and only confirmed that this is not a company that I would like to work for. In this job market, companies need to show that they care about their employees with benefits that are competitive. Low cost of living is great, but taking an additional 4500/year out of your paycheck for medical is outrageous.
