The interview process was a very high touch process and lots of focus on candidate experience.
I had the opportunity to speak with 2 people from the team for phone interview's prior to coming onsite and meeting with the entire team. Each call I had prior to coming onsite flowed seamlessly and was not rushed or transactional. Each person I spoke with asked a variety of questions ranging from day to day practices to some more challenging questions that took a minute or two to collect my thoughts for a good example. At the end of each call I was given plenty of time to ask the interviewer questions about working at Weedmaps as well as the scope of the role.
The onsite interview was a breath of fresh air. To start the interview I was given a tour of the HQ building and was eventually walked up to the conference room where I would do my next 4 interviews. 3 - 1:1 interviews and 1 - Panel Interview.
To my surprise there were no resume's that were printed out. The interview's that took place did not have a distraction of looking down at the resume or asking the same questions of walking through past experience. Rather each interview had full engagement with whomever was in the room. I had an opportunity to meet with someone in leadership on both the Marketing and Engineering team's. They asked some great questions about my strategy and philosophy of Talent Acquisition as well as past experience.
What I really enjoyed about meeting with Marketing and Engineering leadership was how genuinely happy they were about being at Weedmaps. Each leader articulated a message of impact that extended past the scope of what we they were doing at Weedmpas. They also spoke about what their team was doing to drive the cannabis industry as a whole.
Additionally, I met with everyone that I would potentially be working with. I had a great time engaging with each of them. They all asked a variety of great questions and the conversations flowed to where it did not feel like an interview at all. It was a little intimidating at first because it was a panel interview, but after a few minutes in it felt like a room of old friends catching up.
***One thing that I thought was really thoughtful and different from any other interview process that I have yet to experience, was an email from the new team I just joined. After I had verbally accepted my offer and was filling out my new hire paperwork, the team wrote an email telling me a little bit about each of them and some fun facts in it about each person. Information ranging from favorite sports teams and music to Hobbies and interests outside of work. Before I ever stepped a foot in the door for new hire orientation, I already felt like I was part of the team I just joined. Such a simple step that many companies forget can have such a large impact as it did on me.
Could not be happier to join such a great team! So stoked for the Journey ahead!
