I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Weedmaps (Irvine, CA) in Jun 2019
Interview
I met Chris (technical recruiter) at a developer conference and he gave me such a good impression of the company that I ended up applying to Weedmaps through him.
In the initial interview I was asked mostly behavioral and a small amount of technical questions. It was very conversational and pretty typical for a phone screen. I then moved onto a technical screen with a senior engineer, where I was asked some beginner/intermediate Rails questions. Again, things here were very relaxed and I thought the questions were fair. After getting past the technical screen, I was given a code challenge. I applied for the Backend Ruby position, so the challenge consisted of building a small Rails project. I was then flown out to Irvine for my onsite, where I had 4 separate interviews. Similar to what others have said, there were no resumes printed out. Without the distraction of a resume, I felt that my interviewers were able to get a better feel for my personality. It also allowed for questions to flow organically, and each interview ended up being very conversational.
I was extremely impressed with both my recruiter, Chris, as well as the interview process in general. Chris was always quick to reach out and I never felt like I was left hanging at any stage throughout the process. My team placement was direct reflection of my interests and career goals, and it was very refreshing to know that all of those different factors were taken into account. Huge shout out to everyone who was involved in my interview process and I couldn't be more excited to start at Weedmaps!

Interview
First round.) HR screen with 1 easy data structures question
2nd round.) Dev screen with easy questions establishing that you have in fact used Rails/Elixir before
After the 2nd round they give you a take home assessment that you have 72 hours to complete. The problem is a very easy CRUD app (no user authentication required) with bonus points for file uploading, deployment, or a front end.
WARNING: If you meet all of the explicit requirements they lay out for this problem AND do the bonus points that still might not be enough.
the reviewers will deduct points from your challenge under the following conditions:
- if THEY don't know the cd/ls commands
- if you do the bonus part of creating a frontend they will judge you if you use the default scaffolding css/html..
- if you don't meet their code coverage standards. no where in their requirements did they mention they were looking for 100% code coverage. if you decide to add a code coverage dependency they will in fact use that against you
if you meet all of their requirements to a tee that won't be enough if the reviewers just aren't feeling your styling.
