The recruiter on the role was a Sr. TA Manager who was recently hired. The phone interview went really well. We had great chemistry and a lot of similar views and opinions on things. She told me that she would be reviewing with the hiring manager, which was the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
I got a text message the following day from the Sr. TA Manager indicating that she knew it was short notice, but they wanted to try and have me meet with the CHRO today. Given I was interested in the job at that time, I made the time to meet with her.
Meeting with the CHRO was probably one of the worst candidate experiences I have had to date. To think that an executive that runs a function can be so cold. She never once smiled during the interview. There was absolutely no pleasantries, and she just started in with a question. It was so unorthodox for me to have an experience like that, it definitely impacted my performance. I was, and should have just ended the call.
Make sure that your executives are trained properly on interviewing and interviewing etiquette. You may be having a bad day, but put that aside and focus on hiring the best people.
