I found out later a lot of people talk about their passion for comma placement or similar things. I told them I liked looking at the bigger picture of a marketing or business goal and giving a voice to it, and I think this was a big part of why they made me an offer. They want to know you have a head for the business at large (though they certainly won't expect you to have a perfect grasp of their business model right off the bat).
