      Customer Success Manager Interview

      Mar 7, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Bengaluru
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Whatfix (Bengaluru) in Dec 2017

      Interview

The best interviews are the ones where employers do not judge you! Confusing?? Read on. I have attended many an interview but have found none as intriguing as the one I went through. Here's what happened. Day1: Got a message from a recruiter via LinkedIn who wanted to refer me to Whatfix. The moment I said yes, he forwarded my profile to the TA team @ Whatfix. Little did I expect a quick follow up from Whatfix on the same day, requesting me to take an interview with them. I was half sold then. Day 2: The TA partner scheduled an interview with a Senior Customer Success Manager and helped me with resources and knowledge articles to help me know more about Whatfix. Day 3: I had my first call with the first member of the Whatfix team over a Web meeting. I loved the approach to the interview where I was made comfortable and the interviewer assessed my skills and tried to understand my expectations from the job. Not many questions about my current job. Day 5: I had my interview scheduled with the Customer Success architect who set expectations on the job and tried to understand my credentials. Some intense questioning on my experience and what I can add onto the CS function @Whatfix. Day 6: I had a call with the TA Partner who gave me feedback and wanted me to join them at their office for the last few rounds of the interview with the CS Director, the CEO and finally with the HR head. Day 7: The day was finally there. I interviewed with the above three who made an impact in me choosing that this was the right place for me. Below are my thoughts: Customer Success Director: A professional and humble person who tried to understand my background, debated a bit about Customer Success as a function and its ROI to a company. Interesting points that were covered were on how much a different CS function that was being built at Whatfix. CEO: The big interview where I expected a lot of questions on why I had to be hired. But, the opposite happened. Khadim, a person with razor sharp clarity helped me understand and address the culture of the company he wants to build, his story, the ambition and where they are headed. I loved the simplicity and the sheer passion he had. Victor, the Talent Evangelist: I somehow felt this is the person who can sell anything to anyone. The way Victor interviewed me was the best of all. He wanted me to understand how I can think differently about every question posed to me and yet be transparent about my thoughts. He encouraged questions and tried to assess me on what I am and can be. Day 10: I had my offer in hand. I liked the sheer simplicity of the salary negotiation process. I still remember what Victor said "I want to make sure your Christmas is happening.". All that was left was for me to resign and join Whatfix. The best interviews are the ones where employers do not judge you. The best are the ones who make you introspect and think for a career rather than a mere job. Footnotes: 1) The hiring experience was seamless and stellar. 2) Every interviewer made sure the questions I was asked were never repeated. That showed me the care they take to understand you. 3) I have never come across a better salary negotiation process ever. 4) The company has a rich culture and aspirations. 5) The TA team did an excellent job to make sure I was never anxious through the process. Sometimes as candidates, this is all that makes a difference.

      Interview

The hiring process is broken, and the HR team often comes across as unprofessional. They lack the basic courtesy to convey updates, instead choosing to ghost candidates after multiple rounds of calls and meetings. While it’s understandable that a candidate might not be the right fit or that budgets may change, communication and transparency remain essential. It’s unfortunate to see the culture deteriorating and becoming tainted as the company grows.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There’s no structure to the interview process. They conduct a rigorous background check, but when it comes to offering support or providing clarity, it drops to zero — making it one of the most bizarre experiences.

      Application

      Interview

The recruiter was super toxic. I had the right qualifications and was a good fit for the role but she tried to low ball me. That's not even my primary concern, at the end of the call, my self-respect was shattered, I questioned my skills and experience and I hate myself for going through the full call. Condescending tone. Whatfix is looking for AI robots for CSMs and not people who can work effectively with their customers. The TA will play 4D chess with you. You're not that great a company, feet on the ground please.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Your experience and more importantly, why your skills mean nothing to them. Entire call was condescending.

The HR was extremely nice and helpful. But the interviewers themselves were bad, I had a manager who in the name of stress test over extended by an hour and kept asking unreasonable and plain dumb things
