I applied online and got a response after a month. In the first email, the recruiter asks for some basic information about GPA, version of WhatsApp that I use, mobile device type, etc. From here, the interview process felt disorganized and rude. The recruiter firsts asks to schedule a "coding exercise", and we plan for a time. I expect an online coding exercise with one of the engineers or maybe an online timed platform, but instead it's just a prompt in the email and he asks to email the reply in 45 minutes. That might be reasonable, EXCEPT for the fact that he emails it around half an hour after he said he would and would later expect it to be 45 on the dot of when he sends it. Luckily, I was on the computer and was able to get started as soon as I saw the email in the inbox. It was a reasonable question and I thought my implementation was fair (including testing). I send it back to him within the 45 mins (time-stamp verified) and ask for confirmation, but receive no response. A few days later I follow-up with him and all he says is "There was a 45 min time limit". This doesn't make sense at all because 1. he sent it late and 2. I sent it within the 45 mins (verified). After some discussion, he says he will follow-up with me in a few days. I receive an email a week later saying that they "enjoyed talking and interviewing with me" but didn't want to move forward. I responded asking for some feedback but never received a response afterwards. I think WhatsApp is a great company, but the recruiting felt very disorganized. It's like they never even took a look at the code after their initial time screening (which they did wrong) and it feels like they make no effort to connect with their candidates. I've had a couple friends who had the same happen to them.
