I was called and invited in, met with two department managers in the open area where customers can eat. There weren't many people around, but it wasn't very private and felt uncomfortable. Had a few general questions, then called store manager over to meet me. They talked about my role being a floating job, and that I would very likely move into a specific department soon. Apparently in this time, they felt I accepted the job (but I didn't know I had)... HR emailed me a couple of days later with my start date instructions. This was firm and not flexible. I had no way to get back in touch with the people I met with in the interview to clarify the process of settling into a department or other questions I had. Assuming I had accepted the job made me really uncomfortable and I told HR I wouldn't be starting.
