I was initially contacted by a recruiter. He was very professional and helpful. However, he informed me that the manager refuses to read resumes. Instead I needed to answer seven questions related to my project management experience and style. I figured what the heck, I have time, so I did it. Some were describing my background and approach. There were several requests for examples, which worked well with my experience. However, they also wanted a sample document that I could not readily provide, In lieu of that I described how I handle forecasting. I was not willing to hand over my custom spreadsheets, nor did I want to accidentally expose any company or client data. I then had an interview with someone who was either at the same level or a level higher. She did not provide a clear answer. The interview very much felt like, "Convince me you are worthy of working here, peon." She was not looking at either my resume or the infamous seven questions. She came off as very unpleasant. That is, it seemed like you would be in competition rather than working toward a common goal. I pointed out to her that I had never seen a detailed job description and asked if she had one. She laughed. So unprofessional and condescending. I know folks who have worked here. Their tech stack is far behind the times. Far, far, get your binoculars and you still won't find it. Also, the pay was below market. I was supposed to chat with the hiring manager for a few minutes at the end of this interview but that got suddenly cancelled because she was, "too busy." Generally my sense was that I did not kowtow or act desperate enough. After all, my dream should be to take a mid pay, generally unchallenging position with no room for growth. Amirite? The recruiter asked me if I was still interested. I said only because I need a paycheck. He was informed they would keep looking. Surprising no one, they seem to almost constantly keep looking.
