      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (Norfolk, VA) in Oct 2023

      Interview

The interview is a recorded one way interview through Sparkhire. The fact that the hiring team doesn't even want to spare the time to have a Zoom interview with you, or even a phone call should be very telling. The "interview" is really a set of videos that you will play, and each video is of a man who asks you a question. After you're done watching a video, you record your answer with your webcam and microphone then hit submit. You have unlimited time to think about your answers and you get 2 chances to re-record your answer if you didn't like it the first time. While that sounds easy and convenient, barely any of the questions asked me about myself. It was moreso about my computer specifications, whether or not I would be free for the training period, a roleplay scenario, and a lesson I learned about customer service. It seems like they are looking for any warm body to fill this role as long as you have some background in customer service. If they really cared about who they were hiring, they would do Zoom interviews or phone calls at the ABSOLUTE bare minimum. You can't get a true feel for candidates through rehearsed recordings. I even skipped one of the questions because that's how little I cared about this interview and I STILL got an offer. I decided to decline the offer after reading the awful reviews about being a Customer Service Representative for WS, even if you're seasonal. Almost every single review mentions how the training is terrible and they don't properly equip you with the skills and knowledge to handle their irate customers. Not only that but the amount of past employees who have stated they had to constantly deal with the looming threat of being fired for any little thing - is something I just don't want to deal with for a mere $15 an hour. At that point you might as well work at your local grocery store. In my opinion it's clear that Williams Sonoma doesn't care about their CSR employees and just treat them like cogs in a machine. Yes it's a remote position but it will cost you your health and sanity more than any in-person retail job would. I get a lot of us may be desperate for remote roles but for me personally I want to work for a company that at least somewhat cares about their employees.
