I interviewed at WithumSmith + Brown

      Interview

I tried editing my review below about my tax interview (the one about the unprofessional and illegal questions asked) but was unable to but I left out a very important detail that other candidates, hq and Withum clients should be aware of. The first interviewer, the one who asked the blatantly illegal question (to clarify, he asked what my ethnic background is), also decided to ask me technical questions later on in the interview. At one point, he left the room to retrieve a document and came back with a K-1 and preceded to ask me technical questions about the K-1 but did not block out the confidential information, including the K-1 recipient's SSN, address, and the federal ID# of the business entity. Upon speaking with others about my experience, I was informed that not only was this action unprofessional but unethical. I am currently exploring my options on next steps regarding this experience.

Withum appreciates you taking the time to provide your feedback. We take all feedback, positive and negative, seriously. After your interview, we received a kind email message from you, saying in part: “Thank you for setting up my interview yesterday. I had a great conversation with the NYC tax principals. I learned a lot about the firm and the culture. Thank you once again for your time and for the consideration. Have a great weekend!” Subsequent to this email, you posted your first message here on Glass Door, and we asked that you kindly reach out to our Chief Talent Officer or Director of HR as we were looking for further clarification. Rather than respond to our request, you chose to submit another negative posting. Since you did not reach out to us directly as requested, we conducted our own investigation. The comment you raised about a question being asked of you about your ethnic background is inaccurate. The question that was raised was prompted by the interviewer because of the inclusion of certain information you chose to include on your resume. The second comment you made about the interviewer showing you confidential information on K-1 is untruthful. A form K-1 was not shared with you. Again, we welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with you at a time convenient for you.
