First, I did a screen interview with Cathy, and she was amazing. I really liked her personality - super easygoing and welcoming. The questions were simple, and it felt more like a conversation than an interrogation. She mainly walked me through what I’d be doing as an entry-level payroll auditor, which actually made the role sound pretty straightforward and manageable and made me excited and actually start picturing myself to work there.
Then I had the second round on Zoom with three women. That interview was also pretty simple. They talked more about the role, and I introduced myself, went over my background, and answered their questions. Nothing too intense. But I can’t lie - I walked away feeling like I didn’t get it (I was correct, I did not). I’m pretty good at reading people, and the manager’s facial expressions were throwing me off. One of the other interviewers also seemed kind of whatever about me. The third woman (poc) though, I liked - she seemed genuinely nice and more engaged. At one point I made a joke when answering a question…and yeah, it did not land how I thought it would. You know when you feel it immediately? That was one of those moments. After that, the vibe just felt slightly off.
I did want the job because of the pay and the fact that it’s work-from-home, but honestly - whatever. God knows something awful about this company that I must not know and I see it a protection. Ego venefica sum et in te incantamenta mitto Withum.
After reading reviews for payroll auditors… yeah I dodged a bullet lmao God is good 🙏🏽
