Initial conversation with recruiter followed by a meeting with the hiring manager and another designer to present prior work. After the meeting, I was giving a virtual assignment which was to be completed in 2 hours followed by a presentation. After this, I met with an executive from the c-suite.
The hiring team was unprepared for the interviews. The questions asked during the initial meeting and the subsequent assignment presentation were indicative of inexperience hiring designers.
Overall I was under the impression they did not know what to look for in the role they were hiring for. For instance I was asked to showcase specific software skills that anyone who knows the software, should have been able to see.
The interview team did not present the candidate with opportunities to ask questions and also did not share much about their culture, how they work and who would be the best fit. Overall it did not feel like a conversation between the hiring team and the candidate. In addition, throughout the entire process, it felt like they weren't transparent at all about pay, equity, what type of candidates they were looking for and skills needed to be successful.
The virtual assignment was a presentation of how the candidate would design a feature on their roadmap. Felt like they wanted free work done more than anything. Maybe it wasn't their intention. Even so. it shows a lack of investment in developing the hiring process.
