Spoke to the recruiter, then to the hiring manager. All in all a good experience with constant communication from the company. Unfortunately the hiring manager shared the role's purview and priorities for hiring have shifted to more technical needs for the time being. This then paused my interview process. A few weeks thereafter, the hiring manager left the company. Ultimately, Writer is growing fast, and priorities appear to be shifting rapidly (all good in a fast and high-growth startup), but the overall shift for myself as an interviewee was not ideal.
