All remote in early 2021. On one day, talked with a few key people from the endeavor, most were good discussions, some I felt overly technical/quizzing which is unusual at this level. Main issue was that they initially told me they needed someone with the practical knowledge of my field, which is not software engineering. It was some bizarre concocted role at the interface of a few things. They would train with the part that required coding and I was completely upfront with how much I knew. Well they write me a few days later and want me to interview with a software engineer. There was confusion about links and our interview had to go quick by the time it was sorted out where I was supposed to join. This guy persists anyway and pulls the whole "code live in front of me" crap to solve a silly equation, having me join somewhere online that he has this set up. I'm not a coder nd this made me very nervous with the limited time left. I start writing a for loop and am instantly mocked over it. Ultimately showed a perfectly valid way of doing it but it was wrong to this guy. Get contacted back a week later that they decided they now need someone with more coding (good luck getting that plus the rest they wanted, doesn't exist anywhere). Wouldn't have taken it anyway at that point, what a joke. Be clear on job descriptions and expectations with candidates and recognize where you need to draw the line with not everyone being a SWE, "Moonshot Factory".
