I found the opportunity via a posting on LinkedIn that was posted by a recruiter/staffing agency that ALON uses. After a review of my resume I was scheduled for an interview at one of the company's locations in downtown DC.
The company is still in a growth mode (good) as the spaces appeared to have been recently occupied. Lots of people heads-down getting working done in small cubes.
I was interviewed by an individual who was fairly high within a project team they were standing up to handle a contract they had just won. He never clarified his position in the team ,but was not the Program Lead. The interview lasted about an hour and it seemed that they were interviewing several people in succession as I was addressed by the wrong name and the interviewer was unfamiliar with my resume and qualifications.
After a bit of a rough start (see above) the interview went fairly well. I seemed to establish a good connection. We discussed the state of the project, the customer, and my potential role. However, since ALON is taking over an existing effort from another contractor rolling off there is some confusion as to what exactly needs to happen and what the work would entail. The interviewer was not familiar with the different contract vehicles and could not tell me if the effort was an IDIQ or BPA and exactly the services to be provided other than 'PMO Support/Services".
We briefly reviewed the comapny's history, benefits, etc. The interviewer was fairly new to the company so did not have a lot of background. I was asked my current compensation and my target. I was told there was a bonus program that had two components; an annual performance and a BD/sales program.
At the end of the interview I was told I would hear something within 2-3 days.
I received a request to perform a background check that afternoon and an offer the following day. So, the upside is that when they make a decision they move fast.
