      Interview

Received a call from the HR rep and scheduled a phone interview. Rep made it sound like I was a good fit given my experience and set-up a face to face with 2 Yahoo managers and 1 director. I've had one interview in the past with no offer and found a pattern. The director will always drop-out of the interview at the last moment. This is how you know you won't get an offer. I wish HR at Yahoo would be a little more professional in understanding the skill set needed for a position. They usually have no idea about what is really needed beyond the job posting. Also, Yahoo follows the crowd of companies that will not update you after the interview has been completed. Most of the managers I interviewed with did not respond to my calls/emails and the responses I received were that they didn't know when I'd be contacted.

      Interview

I was contacted by an internal recruiter in early June for a new role, and at first the process moved quickly and smoothly. By early July, I had completed interviews with the recruiter, hiring manager, and several team members. My last conversation with the recruiter included positive feedback from the team and instructions to schedule what they described as my “second-to-last interview,” which I completed on July 1st. After that, communication completely stopped. I followed up with both the recruiter (a week later) and the hiring manager (a couple of weeks after that) in hopes of closing the loop. Neither responded. Meanwhile, my application continued to show as “under consideration” on Yahoo’s portal for months until I finally received an automated message stating the job was closed and another candidate was selected at the end of August. I fully understand not every process results in an offer, but being ghosted—especially after multiple interviews, positive feedback, and building a relationship with the recruiter—was disappointing and unprofessional. For a company of Yahoo’s scale, I expected at minimum a respectful closure to the process. If this is how they treat candidates who make it to final rounds, it raises questions about how the organization operates internally. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Yahoo as an employer based on this experience.
