Applied online and was contacted to schedule a phone interview with one of the sales managers. She called me 15 minutes late, said, "Yeah, I called you 10 minutes ago and there was no answer, but I thought I'd try calling one more time," which at first made me very nervous. The phone interview was quick, she asked me basic questions about what Yelp is, what the job responsibilities are, and how I prepared for the interview. Throughout the whole call the manager sounded disinterested in everything I had to say and I was convinced that I was going to get a second interview, but I did -- the phone interview is really to gauge how comfortable you are speaking on the phone, your personality, your ability to listen, etc., and I think my interviewer was just trying to shake me so she could see how I dealt with the pressure. A couple days later I was invited for an in-person interview. I met 1:1 with three different sales managers, and they each asked me very basic questions about the job description and my personality (how do you define success? explain a time that you dealt with a difficult coworker or teammate? how would your old bosses describe you in 3 words? how would your friends describe you in 3 words after a couple of drinks? etc.), and each one had me do a roleplay (pretend that I'm a business owner and ask me open-ended questions to get me to talk about my business). Each of the managers that interviewed me were very friendly and made me feel comfortable, I mostly felt like they were gauging how well I could keep a conversation and if I would fit in well with current employees.
