      Customer Success Manager Interview

      Dec 3, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at YipitData (New York, NY) in Sep 2016

      Interview

      1. Brief phone interview. 2. Take home assignment. 3. Follow up phone call for one part of the assignment. First round interview was very brief, made it through and given the two part take home assignment. I spent about 10+ hours doing it. One part required an extensive sales/customer success plan for a list of clients with some spreadsheets of customer data. The second part required you to adequately research a company that Yipitdata cover, and then do a follow up mock phone call with an analyst from a hedge fund asking about the product. I completed the sales plan which I had spent a lot of time and effort on. Then followed up with a short mock phone call, to my surprise the interviewer was unaware that I had already sent the sales plan. Two weeks later I received a very short email saying I was not being progressed. I asked for feedback and the response I got indicated that the materials I had sent through had not be read in entirety, leaving me to feel like it was one of the biggest wastes of time in my life. My suggestion would be to screen further before making people do such an extensive take home assignment. Or, if you choose to take people's time early in the interview process, in my opinion, you have a responsibility to use your time to give some feedback.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

First round was about motivations, background, etc. It was very brief. There was a follow up phone call for the assignment, which was about the take home materials and the Yipitdata product specifically - a role play between a customer success manager and an analyst. Similar to what you would actually do in the role.

Thank you for your feedback here. I apologize that you had a negative experience with us. I hear your frustrations and agree that candidates spending significant time on our exercises deserve meaningful feedback on why we do not proceed forward. This is an effort that I have been working to improve and will continue to do so! In addition to improving the quality of feedback that we provide, I am also working to make the expectations more clear from the beginning of the process as well. If you have any further concerns, questions or suggestions to how we can improve this process please feel free to reach out to jobs@yipitdata.com!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at YipitData (New York, NY) in Oct 2016

      Interview

An online application and then a brief phone call with a current employee who would be working directly above you. If they like you then they will give you an assignment with a week long time frame. If they liked the work, then you would be flown out for a final round of interviews. If they don’t like your answer, you don’t even know what went wrong with work, the assignment can be done in multiple different ways, there is no right or wrong in the answer. You may have 20 years of work experience in the same field, but if they don’t like your answer, they just say thank you and bye with no feedback at all. I see their response very insulting considering the time and effort you put into the assignment. I wish they have a more professional hiring process. Good company, fantastic product, great vision, but weak and non professional hiring process.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I appreciate you sharing your experience and I apologize for your frustration in not receiving proper feedback on the exercise. We greatly appreciate the time that candidates spend on our exercises during the interview process and that was clearly not well communicated to you! Unfortunately, because we use the exercises uniformly across all candidates, we are unable to share “correct” answers that we are looking for when providing feedback. However, we can definitely improve the way that we are able to provide constructive feedback to help candidates understand why we are not moving forward. In response to this review, I have been working closely with our Hiring Managers across all of our roles to develop structured feedback forms that will allow us to translate the assessment of the exercise into meaningful feedback that we can share. If you have any further concerns, questions or suggestions to how we can improve this process please feel free to reach out to jobs@yipitdata.com!
