I never review an interview or never feel bad about unsuccessful interview / or unpleasant experience. But this one was unusual.
The first interview was 2.5 hours long, not an issue but longer then average for first interview (not a couple of interview back to back just one long interview). Only after starting I realized why... When you on a Job lookup you have a crazy schedule where you work full time while you also try to schedule as many interviews in a day as possible (some days you have 4 or 5 interviews) and you also need to balance your family life.
The interviewer decided that I need a 50 minutes business presentation (30 plus pages of a business level PowerPoint presentation that was obviously taken from the marketing/product team) which had nothing to do with the position or relevant in any technical way.
While it's great to hear this on a more later interview stage, this 50+ minutes was 1. A huge waste of my time (I barely spoken one word) 2. For all regards, this was a per-sale call not a technical interview exactly like I was a potential customer. They got out of their way to praise, self compliment and overestimating themselves....
I needed to listen for 50 minutes how much this company is the "real deal" (This was said more then 10 times) and it was very clear that this guy tried to intimidate and to self brag about himself, his team and the company.
Well that's cool... Every company think it's the best one and most companies believes they are the "only best one" out-there, but this was really just tiresome and superficial.
Not sure why they chose to waste 50 minutes of their time on the first interview before asking one technical question but I felt disregard for my own time - As there are the most beautiful, technical, advanced, the smartest employees in any companies the world have ever seen I guess I should say thank you just to be allowed to listen to their product and goals for almost a full hour?
The main message that was forcibly convey to me - There is nothing at our level period (for 50 minutes) now tell us why we should even consider you?
I never had a feeling of such a disrespect and condescension before I even opened my mouth.
At the hour and a half point the other (much more "normal" interviewer and clearly in a lower managerial position) ask the main guy for a 5 minutes break.. When I asked he explain that this is an HR requirement not a request. And after listening to this never ending lecture while my phone is not stopping calling for other positions and other opportunities, and my full-time work place is calling me and trying to reach me and I have another two other interviews scheduled just after this one -> I really needed this break so thank you HR for thinking about the candidate on this regard.
But off-course this Yotpo interviewer, very smartly, make sure to give me the feeling that they don't need any 5 minutes break and that we can continue "Unless I need it".
Well damn, that's just either 1. Mean 2. Thinking your time is much more valuable then mine.
It was not possible to take this 5 minutes break without "losing points" he made sure I understand this.
I knew that this position/company/attitude was not for me after the first 40 minutes where I stopped listening and was more concentrated on my phone to move on to a better position. I simply continued just out of courtesy and basic manners (sorry Yotpo but yes... there are other better positions :J ).
But I was so distressed after this 2 and a half hours interview that I decided to share it for others. Maybe it will help and maybe not but I do feel like they (at least the R&D team) are unpleasant to work with and Inconsiderate with an "Non-Yotpo" employees...
