I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Your Part-Time Controller, LLC in Apr 2023
Interview
Started with a screening interview where I was asked various questions and given some info about the position. Then the first interview was 2 hours and included a basic accounting and Excel test. Moved to second interview which was 1.5 hours and had homework assigned beforehand. Moved to final interview which was high-level to determine if you are a fit for the position and vice-versa. This interview lasted an hour, and very quickly during discussion determined I was not a fit for the position. Apparently this job involves a significant amount of detail-level accounting work (payroll, JEs, AP, etc.), and I have been in a Director-level position for a long time where I oversee work done by staff but do not regularly perform those tasks myself. For the Associate (Controller) positions they want you to have very recent experience doing basic transactional accounting. This was beyond disappointing as this discussion easily could have happened during the initial screening interview instead of taking so many hours of time from me and all of the interviewers involved. (By the way every person I interviewed with was extremely nice and professional). One of the things asked in the interviews was how you manage time when you have a lot of work and deadlines. Here is one example where YPTC could improve on that.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tested on Excel pivot tables and vlookup, natural balances of GL accounts, and some basic journal entries. Give example of messy situation and how you handled. What did you learn from reading ASC 958-205 and 958-605? Examples of internal controls you have implemented or improved.

Interview
Very rigorous, 4 interviews (screening, testing, manager and then director). The screening is the most difficult for people to get past. However, if you can get past that and you actually are an accountant you can pass the testing and then the interviews are very detailed.

Question 1
Why did I want to work with Non-profit organizations?
There are four interviews, all over phone/zoom. First is a phone screen, the second has an accounting (DR and CR) and excel test, the third accounting standards, then a fourth final interview/offer.
