While highly unusual, we sometimes encounter candidates who may have misrepresented their employment history, or some other material fact.
In these situations, we send the candidate an email with several attachments including an “Adverse Action” letter, a copy of the background check report, and a summary of their rights under federal law. The letter explains what is happening, and why, and gives the candidate an opportunity to address the situation.
If the candidate does not avail him or herself of this opportunity, we have no choice but to rescind the offer.
It is disappointing when this happens as we invest significant amounts of time with the candidate in our interview process. But given the sensitive nature of our role as professional accountants and financial advisors, our clients, and our staff, expect nothing less.
