The interview felt unusually casual, with only one pointed question asked during the entire hour. Most of the time, I was listening to the hiring team openly vent about the challenges of the group I’d be expected to help manage alongside other scrum masters. Midway through, several people were introduced to me, fine in theory, but in practice, it felt random. As someone with interviewing experience, it honestly came across as disorganized, as if they were filling time by pulling in whoever walked past the conference room. It disrupted the opportunity for a more meaningful dialogue and made the whole meeting feel disjointed. Ultimately, I left surprised I wasn’t offered the role, especially given how well my background fits and how well I got along with everyone. More importantly, I walked away with the impression that the team does not have a clear understanding of the scrum master and product owner roles they’re trying to fill.
