I applied for a Marketing Position at Zoetis and heard back a few weeks later. I had an introductory phone call with the recruiter, who was personable and nice enough. After a few minutes into the call, they mentioned that I was a great candidate and then started prepping me with advice for all the interviews to come. We spent about 15 minutes discussing interview 2 (with the hiring manager) and interview 3 (with a panel of individuals set out to ask me cutlure-based questions to make sure I was a great fit).
The sharing of this information took me aback, as I didn't expect for someone to go so in depth on the process, and give me tips on what to do ala "you should research xyz and pay attention to our company values"; they seemed very confident I'd continue to the last round of interviews. They let me know they'd follow up asap (later that week). Radio Silence.
I reached out to check-in the following week, and received no response. A few days later, I received a cold, automated message that I'd been cut from the process.
There are no sour feelings to not moving forward, but I am sorely unimpressed by how that was handled. Candidates are putting themselves out there and when you receive such glowing feedback and reassurance DURING the interview, you start to feel more secure in the next steps. How was I simultaneously a candidate that was seemingly getting fast-tracked, then not important enough to follow up with a personal email?
There are a lot of candidates looking for work, doing their research before interviews, and preparing for a professional experience and to be treated with respect. This was so lacking, and they should be embarrassed.
