      Senior Business Manager Interview

      Aug 7, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Zoom Communications (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2020

      Interview

Pretty straight forward, a recruiter contacted me to schedule 30 mins for a screening call, that happened very quickly, the recruiter was nice. Then I passed to the second round with the hiring manager, another 30 mins call, hiring manager was nice, the interview wasn't that difficult all good. HM told me I will be contacted in the next 2 weeks with results. after 1 minute I had an email from the recruiter saying I have passed to the third round, which in one had was nice but at the same time, I don't think she even had the time to speak with the hiring manager hmmm who knows. Third round with two different people (peers) one of them really nice, super easy interview his attitude felt very genuine. Now, the second person, so I believe he was coming with the best of intentions to do a good job interviewing, but to be completely honest he was clearly very inexperienced, after 5 mins of the interview the session became a show intel of what he has been doing and showing me files and stuff he has put together to support for this role while the hire someone. I pretty much had no chance to talk much and also what he was showing me was so basic and low quality for the role I was applying for. he was asking me "do you think you can do this? (while showing me his files" In my mind, I was like mmm no I don't think so, only because that is so bad! but then I only could answer like "yes sure" it was a little awkward for me to answer his questions. we went on for 1 hour where I was a little confused and I think that showed in my body language. I do think he was just trying too hard and looks like he was just recently promoted so maybe not much experience interviewing. Anyway, never heard back after 3 rounds of interviews. I contacted the recruiter like 3 weeks after only because I was curious, to be honest after that last round I wasn't very interested on the role anymore, but she never responded. One thing that was a little odd, was that on that third round of interviews the two people mentioned that Zoom has strong policies around working from the office, that the expectation is to be 8 to 9 hours in the office every day. I was like, hold on, isn't your product meant to incentive flexibility?, so I asked how do families with kids do? and the person answer was like, well I don't know because I don't have kids but I am totally in agreement with the expectation of spending 8 to 9 hours in the office. So that was really odd, I haven't been in a situation like this before, normally companies are pretty flexible and having that Zoom is one of the best places to work for I am hoping this was a misunderstanding. Also specially for their product, it just doesn't make sense. I am sure now with the pandemic those expectations might have to change :)
