I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Zymergen (Emeryville, CA) in Jan 2018
Interview
Long, disorganized. Really, don't waste your time. Wish I read the other reviews here. You will be asked to do maybe 3 or 4 phones screens, some coder challenges, HR will be unresponsive in getting back to you in a timely way, was asked on site, The day consisted of mostly random interviews, and you have to spend time preparing and giving a PowerPoint presentation. When all is said and done, even though you have the exact experience the team needed, they will say they found someone else. I think they just like talking to and making themselves feel wanted. Sort of disorganized, if that is your thing, you'll love it.

Question 1
Nothing really difficult, which is surprising they can reject, b/c they literally don't ask anything relevant to the position you are interviewing for.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Zymergen (Irvine, CA) in Oct 2020
Interview
Had 3 prescreening interviews. The first two were fine and the third was quite annoying but it did make me know it wasn’t the place for me. The interviewer was asking if I had skills that I never said I had which was annoying. Then they watch you code which was also annoying. Apparently after the 3rd you go out to the company for a whole day of interviews. The process was long and it took a while for HR to get back to me saying they were not interested . But at that time it was ok I wasn’t interested
I applied online. I interviewed at Zymergen in Sep 2020
Interview
Applied online and was contacted by recruiter within a few weeks. Their process seemed to move a bit slowly compared to other companies, spanning multiple weeks. I had a few offers and was in later stages for other interviews. Ultimately I wouldn't have been able to go through their process before having to decide on other offers so didn't continue.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Zymergen (Emeryville, CA) in Sep 2018
Interview
I applied online. Recruiter reached out and scheduled an initial recruiter phone screen. Pretty standard went over my background to determine if my background fits the role. Followed by Hiring Manager phone screen which went well, followed by Technical phone screen. The question was good which went well. And then was called onsite which had 6 rounds from presentation, technical and behavioral. Overrall i was very impressed with the process, timely response from recruiters and interview schedulers. The process was extremely organized and the interviewers were very welcoming which i truly care about.
