I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at alliantgroup, LP (Houston, TX) in Jan 2025
Interview
1. Contacted via LinkedIn by a recruiter from Alliantgroup in Houston, TX for a Professional Engineering job.
2. I am shown a pre-recorded video interview of the recruiter.
3. I submit my own video introduction.
4. I am told to submit a Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment online.
5. Virual interview via Microsoft Teams.
6. Final on-site interview in Houston, TX. Alliantgroup pays for the flight and hotel but I have to buy my own meals. There is only one or two restaurants within walking area of the hotel. Alliantgroup also pays for my taxi/Uber to and from the airport and there is a free shuttle from the hotel to Alliantgroup HQ.
The on-site interview was pretty basic. They walk me through what a Professional Engineer would do, and that is basically use my PE license to sign and stamp drawings that will give tax credit to energy-efficient buildings. They walk me along a floor that has designers, modelers, and others who all seem to have a pre-written speech to tell me about their role. Everyone in the office sits near each other, one computer next to the other, not even a full cubicle for each employee. The Professional Engineering job would be remote following three months of on-site training.
After all that, I did not get the job. They didn't even have the decency to send me a proper rejection letter. I just get the automated rejection email notice from their myworkdayjobs.com applicant portal after they reject me.
It was probably for the best. If you read the online reviews about Alliantgroup, they are a very sketchy company that wants you to work excessive hours (60+ hours per week, more during tax season) and they have been investigated and raided by the feds in the past.

Interview
I heard about the job opportunity through a recruiting company. The recruiter first interviewed through Skype. About a month later I had a phone interview with an HR person at Alliantgroup. Late in following week, she wanted to meet me during her trip to Houston. I spent an hour with her at their Houston office.
The position description said they were looking for someone that would present well to their clients because the for required a lot of client interface. My experience far exceed the job requirements, however since I'm over 50 I would probably be the age of other employees' fathers.
Typical questions were not asked. The discussion was mainly about how the employees have so much fun and how the company provides all kinds of perks, including a private club for the top performers.
The next day I received an email from the recruiter saying the HR person thought I wouldn't fit because I had too strong of a sales background. That stumped because the emphasis was much on client interface as well and professional engineering. The recruiter was just as surprised as me. I have to think it was age discrimination. But I'll never know. From what I read about the company prior to interview tells me that I would not like working there.
