What are some of your superpowers?
They requested specific illustrative work and had specific process requirements, such as using Figma instead of Adobe. During the initial phone call, I asked detailed questions about their process and tools, but the recruiter dismissed my concerns. They reassured me that it wouldn’t be an issue—that the illustrative work I had was similar enough and that I could quickly learn to process my illustrations in Figma instead of Adobe. As a result, I entered the second interview unprepared, which made me feel foolish. The senior designer and art director were polite but clearly frustrated, which was embarrassing. Shortly after, I received a brief and impersonal rejection notice from the recruiter, who had previously been so confident it would be a great fit, leaving me feeling demoralized. Leaving that interview, I felt a mix of embarrassment and regret, especially since I had taken a personal day from a job I truly loved to attend. The recruiter had convinced me I was the perfect fit for the role and that I would thrive, but their lack of thoroughness led to an awkward and disappointing experience that could have easily been avoided.
